February IN-PERSON Training
Title| Psychiatric Intervention with Children and Adolescents
Date| Monday, February 26, 2018
Time| 6:30pm – 8pm
Location| Howard County Public Library, Miller Branch – Patapsco/Avalon Rooms (9421 Frederick Road, Ellicott City, MD 21042)
Description| Research shows that children who come to the attention of the child welfare system have disproportionally high rates of social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges, often as a result of maltreatment and trauma. Studies consistently reveal higher rates of psychotropic medication use for children and youth in foster care. This training will provide participants with an overview of the diagnostic assessment and medical evaluation of foster youth. We will discuss the major classes of psychotropic medications, prescribing trends in foster care youth and the role an advocate can play in ensuring children and youth receive proper mental health care.
Presented By| Dr. Del Dressel, Psychiatrist & Adolescent Unit Director for Spring Grove State Hospital
